WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHERThe Nature Conservancy’s Renewable Energy Transition strategy is working to accelerate a clean, green, and equitable energy future. Mitigating climate change requires a rapid, massive buildout of renewable energy infrastructure to achieve net-zero emissions goals. A faster energy transition requires a smart buildout—one that supports goals for the climate, conservation, and communities.
The Europe Renewable Energy Policy Associate provides policy support to the Europe Renewable Energy programme and Europe Policy and Institutional Partnerships team. They may take the lead on development and implementation of one or more policy strategies. The role sits within the Europe Policy and Institutional Partnerships team reports to the Head of Climate Policy Europe, and works closely with the Europe Renewable Energy Program team and its Director. This position will contribute to the achievement of The Nature Conservancys programme of work on Renewable Energy in Europe, that seeks to support the acceleration of renewable energy deployment in harmony with nature, people and communities in order to achieve TNC’s ambitious climate and biodiversity goals..
The position is based in TNC’s Brussels office.
WERE LOOKING FOR YOUThe Renewable Energy Policy Associate supports the Europe Renewable Energy strategy by driving forward and supporting policy engagement on TNC’s renewable energy strategy. They assist in the outreach, development, and management of strategic partnerships with policy-makers and relevant stakeholders active on renewable energy policy in Europe – with a focus on actors active on EU and national level renewable energy policies. The Renewable Energy Policy Associate works with the Europe Policy and Institutional Partnerships team, Europe and Global Renewable Energy Program teams to conduct policy engagement and outreach, develop supporting analysis and materials, organise meetings and events in support of the achievement of the Programme’s policy goals Some travel may be required.
- Advocate TNC’s policy recommendations on accelerating renewable energy deployment in harmony with nature, people and communities;
- Liaise with, help to build and manage relationships with EU and, where relevant, MS policy-makers on policies to accelerate renewable deployment in harmony with nature, people and communities;
- Provide policy analysis of relevant EU policies for accelerating renewables in harmony with nature, people and communities;
- Develop supporting analysis and recommendations on policy incentives to accelerate renewable deployment in harmony with nature people and communities;
- Track relevant policy developments and political milestones for the Europe team on renewables at European national, EU, and global level;
- Coordinate with relevant TNC colleagues to deliver on identified policy priorities; in particular, work closely with colleagues in the Europe Policy and Institutional Partnerships team, Europe and Global Renewable Energy Program teams to ensure information flows and relevant input is gathered;
- Manage and continue building relationships with relevant stakeholders on renewables policy (NGOs, trade associations, think tanks, etc.);
- Identify events and opportunities to elevate TNC’s policy work on renewables with European stakeholders and where relevant support on the delivery of these events (briefings, stakeholder maps, agendas, invitations, etc.)
- Monitor and report on relevant developments on renewable energy policy in EU Member States, and, as relevant, in other European countries and globally;
- Work independently, working with supervisor as needed
- University degree in the fields of energy, environment, policy, public affairs or related field;
- Three years professional experience in policy, public affairs, renewable energy, climate or related field;
- Fluency in English with excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Experience with legislative, planning, policy or corporate initiatives;
- Experience presenting to and communicating with government officials or agencies;
- Experience working with partners/government agencies and the corporate sector;
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in European energy and climate policy-making or advocacy is highly desired;
- Knowledge of EU policy-making and decision-making processes is highly desired;
- Knowledge of European national policy-making processes (e.g. UK, France, Germany, or other) is an asset
- Ability to draft high-quality policy briefings, reports and analysis is highly desired;
- Knowledge of relevant stakeholder networks active on renewable energy policy across Europe is an asset.
- Experience interacting with a range of stakeholders across governmental and non-governmental institutions, experts, industry and business.
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- Willingness to learn and develop expertise in new conservation strategies, economic drivers, management tools, and global affairs.
- Strong team player with political savvy who can build relationships and work collaboratively across the organization and with partners.
- Experience in coalition-building and/or managing multi-sectoral partnerships.
- Ability to develop and drive new ideas and approaches.
- Ability to work well in a highly matrixed, decentralized and collaborative organization.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet time sensitive deadlines.
- NGO and/or corporate relations experience.
